CVN PSA

CVN PSA is our self-hosted PSA for small MSPs. Connect it to MSP Backups and each device in the PSA shows its latest backup result, and backup problems become tickets without anyone watching a dashboard.

What the integration does

  • Every 15 minutes, CVN PSA reads the backup status of every device from your MSP Backups server, through the backup status endpoint.
  • It matches each backup device to a PSA device by hostname.
  • It stores the latest result on the PSA device, where technicians see it next to the device's health.
  • A failed backup opens an internal ticket at High priority. A stale backup, with no successful backup for 48 hours, opens one at Normal priority.
  • When the backup recovers, the PSA resolves the ticket itself.

The results also feed CVN PSA's compliance tracker, which checks that managed devices have healthy backups.

The integration only reads. Starting backups and restores happens in MSP Backups.

Create an API key

Choose the kind of key:

Key Returns Use it when
Tenant key One tenant's devices One MSP Backups tenant maps to one PSA client
All-tenants key Every tenant's devices, each tagged with its tenant name You want every client's backups in the PSA with one key
  1. For an all-tenants key: in the global admin portal, open API & Webhooks, create a key and choose All tenants (current & future). For a tenant key: in that tenant's admin portal, open API Keys.
  2. Choose the read scope. The PSA never writes.
  3. Copy the key. It is shown only once.

An all-tenants key includes tenants you add later, so new clients appear in the PSA without a new key.

Connect it in CVN PSA

  1. In the PSA admin portal, open the MSP Backups integration settings.
  2. Turn the integration on.
  3. Enter your MSP Backups address, for example https://backups.your-msp.com.
  4. Paste the API key.
  5. Save, then use Test connection. It reports "all clients" for an all-tenants key, or the tenant a tenant key belongs to.

How devices are matched

Backups are reported per hostname, and two clients can have machines with the same name. With an all-tenants key, CVN PSA only matches a device inside the PSA client whose name matches the MSP Backups tenant's name, and only when the match is unambiguous.

If nothing appears in the PSA

  • Check the integration is turned on in the PSA.
  • Use Test connection to check the address and the key.
  • Check that hostnames are the same in both systems.
  • If the PSA and backup servers sit behind the same router, check the PSA server can reach the backup server's public address. Some routers do not route a public address back inside the network. A hosts-file entry on the PSA server fixes this.
